Feeling very blessed!

I am so incredibly lucky. I start each day not knowing exactly what will happen, what kind of work I’ll do or who I’ll be working for; that’s the beauty of freelancing.

As you know, I’ve been freelancing for a year now and I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing companies and people in that time. I have gone from purely undertaking administration roles, to voice overs, video tutorials, accounting and now social media marketing and PR.

I am currently actively promoting two books; one is a suspense thriller by Ken Boehs called The Tilted Truth and the other is a children’s book, details for which I’ll reveal soon. How exciting is that?!

I’m also working with some other fantastic companies:

  • The Canvas Factory – who print photos directly from Facebook and Instagram onto canvas. Awesome!
  • Perfect Party Pieces – a future party supplies company, although at the moment I’m providing fans with inspiration for cakes, decorations, party food and party games for different party themes.
  • Elance Australia – I help others use Elance to find work or hire contractors.
  • Paint My Place App – A fantastic iPhone app that allows you to paint your home with virtual paint colours. I’m no longer working with them, but it’s a wonderful idea!

It’s so nice to be able to be able to clock on and off around Hannah’s needs, and fulfill my own at the same time.

Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss how Elance or freelancing works 🙂

Ladybug Ladybird Party Theme Ideas

First of all, what is the different between a ladybug and a ladybird? As far as I understand it, it’s a cultural thing (eg. Aussie v American). Either way, this is the theme I’ve chosen for my daughter’s 1st birthday. It’s in 2 WEEKS!!!! I can’t believe it’s come around so quickly!

Invitation Ideas

I’ve decided to make the invitations myself. I would have LOVED to have made little ladybugs with wings that open for the invitations, but I have to be practical – I go back to work tomorrow and it’s just not going to happen.

I’ve just whipped this one up using Paint – it’s not terribly fancy, but it’s still sweet.

I really liked the following example invitation too, although unfortunately I have no idea where I found it. Probably off Facebook or Pinterest, but you can see that it was made by Serendipity Design.

Decoration Ideas

There are so many beautiful parties out there and planning a 1st birthday has its pressure, that’s for sure. So here are some lovely examples of parties with decorations that I aspire to have.

1. I simply adore the hand-made art at the back of this dessert table. I might even try to make one for Hannah, I love it that much! I also really like the garland hanging in front of the table. Source.

I’ve had lots of requests through Perfect Party Pieces for some Rainbow party theme ideas, so I thought I’d share some here as well.

Cake Ideas

1. My awesome sister-in-law sent me this photo of an amazing rainbow cake – it’s a Duff Tie Died Cake Mix cake.

Decorations

I love easy decorations, so here a few ideas:

1. This would make a fantastic centrepiece for a rainbow themed party or for any birthday, simply by putting the correct age into the jar first and filling up with M&Ms, Smarties or Skittles. Source.

2. This awesome rainbow balloon wall would be a fantastic addition to any party. You could also hide things in the balloons to find when popping, or use the balloons as a part of a party game later in the day. Source.

3. Here’s a tutorial to create this cute rainbow cloud garland.

4. I love the combo of pom poms and balloons, and having the staircase helps to create that rainbow progression too. However, this could easily be recreated on a string, along a window frame or across a patio. Source.

5. I love the table runner – this could easily be replicated by sewing together different coloured strips of fabric onto one backing piece. I’m loving the umbrellas too! Source.

6. This cute ribbon garland just screams festive fun! You could add even more colours to it if you wanted to, or use red, white and blue streamers only for a 4th July or Australia Day feel. Source.

7. I love the decorations here, especially the colourful cups and plates they’ve used. Mind you, I don’t know about washing up after a party… lol Here’s the source.

The top 10 reasons I love working from home

The top 10 reasons I love working from home

I honestly have to say that working from home is one of the best decisions I have ever made, for my lifestyle, my baby girl, my hip pocket and my sanity! Here are my top 10 reasons why working from home is a great idea:

  1. I get to rock up to work in my PJs, without make-up and breastfeeding Hannah if I want to, with absolutely no judgement.
  2. I can clock on at any time of the day, so if Hannah’s keeping me up at night and simply won’t go to sleep, I don’t fight it – I do some work instead on one of my many jobs.
  3. It has allowed me to brush up on old skills and learn new ones.
  4. I am working in areas that I would never have thought of when I left school, or that simply weren’t available at the time. For example, managing the social media marketing for various businesses. Facebook hadn’t even been invented, let alone Pinterest, yet I am now able to stay connected and increase sales and interest in my clients’ businesses straight from my laptop.
  5. I am not being judged on how I look; I am being judged purely on whether I can produce great results efficiently and effectively.
  6. I choose which jobs I bid for and how much money I would like to be paid; if the client agrees, fantastic, if not then there are plenty of other clients out there who would be happy to work with me.
  7. I have developed networks and friendships with other freelancers, which could work to some great collaborative projects.
  8. I have been able to help other people sign up and start working, some of whom were also in dire need of income.
  9. My freelancing jobs have been complimentary to my usual job as a teacher, so even though I’m on maternity leave, I’ve been able to work on educational projects like curriculum writing and the use of social media in the classroom.
  10. Most of all, I’m able to spend time with my best friend Hannah and I can work without paying extra for childcare.

If you would like to find out more about freelancing, I’ll be running webinars soon and I’d love for you to attend. Alternatively, please feel free to contact me or check out my official Elance mobilizer landing page to get started.
